Your First Reformer Pilates Class at KY

Never been on a reformer? Here's exactly what happens — from booking to the end of your first 50-minute class at our Shoreditch studio.

Booking Your First Class

1. Buy the KY Intro Trio

New to KY? The KY Intro Trio is 3 classes for £49, valid for 1 month. Checkout is handled securely by Mindbody, and checking out creates your KY Pilates account — the same login works on the website and in the KY Pilates app.

2. Book your first class

All classes must be booked online in advance — there are no walk-ins, and classes fill up, so book a few days ahead. Pick a Reformer Essentials class if you can (see below).

3. Arrive 10 minutes early

For your first class, arrive around 10 minutes before the start and tell your instructor it's your first time — they'll help you get set up and explain everything before class starts. (After that, 5 minutes early is fine.) Late arrivals may not be allowed in, for safety reasons.

Start with Reformer Essentials

Reformer Essentials is our beginner class. It introduces the reformer machine, how to set it up, the fundamental exercises and the key Pilates principles, so you can move safely and confidently in future classes.

It runs a few times a week — see the live timetable for this week's days and times. Can't make one? Any Reformer Pilates class works too: instructors give modifications throughout, so beginners and regulars take the same class.

What Happens in the Class

  1. Arrive, pop your things in a locker and let the instructor know it's your first time (and about any injuries, medical conditions or pregnancy).
  2. Your instructor sets you up on a reformer and explains everything before class starts.
  3. A 50-minute, instructor-led full-body session in a group of no more than 10, with modifications offered throughout.
  4. Wipe down your reformer with the antibacterial spray provided — and you're done.

First-Class Questions

Is reformer Pilates OK for complete beginners?

Yes — no experience needed. We recommend taking at least one Reformer Essentials class first; it's recommended, not required. If the Essentials times don't work for you, book any Reformer Pilates class, arrive about 10 minutes early and tell your instructor it's your first time.

I'm not very fit or flexible — is that a problem?

No. Classes are for all levels and instructors give modifications throughout every class.

How long is a class?

50 minutes, with a maximum of 10 people — one per reformer.

What should I wear to my first class?

Fitted, comfortable workout clothes. Grip socks are recommended and are available to buy in the studio if you don't have your own. All equipment is provided.

What's the best way to try KY?

The KY Intro Trio: 3 classes for £49, valid for 1 month — designed for people new to KY Pilates.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancel at least 12 hours before class and there's no penalty. Cancelling with less than 12 hours' notice means the class is forfeited (no extra fee). If you don't attend and didn't cancel, the class is forfeited and a £20 No-Show Fee may be charged.

Are there showers?

No — showers aren't currently available at the studio, but there are lockers for your belongings and plenty of nearby options in Shoreditch.
