It's usually one of the first questions people ask before booking their first class at KY Pilates: "wait, is it actually women-only?" Yes – and it's not a branding decision layered on top of a regular studio. It shapes the studio day to day, from class size to the atmosphere in the room.
Where it started
KY Pilates was built out of our founder's own health and fitness journey, with the goal of creating a studio that felt genuinely accessible rather than intimidating – somewhere the barriers that stop people starting (or restarting) a fitness practice were deliberately designed out, not just talked about. A women's-only environment was part of that from the beginning, not something added later.
What it changes in practice
For a lot of our members, being in a women's-only room changes how comfortable they feel trying something new in front of other people – wobbling through a first roll-up, asking an instructor to repeat a cue, or simply not being sure what to do with their hands. Those are small things individually, but they add up to how likely someone is to actually come back for a second class.
Small classes, on purpose
Our Reformer classes are capped at 10 women, which is a deliberate limit tied to how many machines we have and how much individual attention we want instructors to be able to give. It means instructors can actually see your form and adjust it, rather than cueing a packed room and hoping everyone's following along correctly.
A community, not just a class
Members training in the same small group regularly tend to know each other's names within a few weeks – that's a natural side effect of small, consistent classes rather than something we engineer. For a studio in the middle of busy Shoreditch, that sense of a familiar, low-pressure room is something a lot of our members specifically look for.
If you're considering it
This isn't the right fit for everyone, and that's fine – but if a women's-only, small-group Reformer studio in Shoreditch is what you've been looking for, we'd rather you know exactly what you're booking before you turn up. See our Shoreditch studio page, check the class schedule, or book your first class.
