Between Shoreditch, Brick Lane, Hoxton and the wider East London studio scene, there's no shortage of places to try Pilates right now. That's good news if you're looking to start – but it also means it's worth knowing what to actually look for, rather than booking whichever studio comes up first.
Reformer or mat – know which you're booking
Not every "Pilates" class in the area is the same format. Some studios run mat-based classes, others are Reformer-only, and some offer both on different days. If you're specifically after Reformer work – the spring-loaded carriage machine – check before you book, because the workout, the pace and the equipment are genuinely different.
Class size and how much attention you'll get
A Reformer studio is physically limited by how many machines fit in the room, which is one of the more reliable ways to judge how much individual correction you'll get. If you're new to Pilates, hands-on setup and form correction in your first few classes makes a real difference to how quickly it clicks.
What the studio actually provides
Ask what's included before you book: equipment, lockers, and whether grip socks are sold on-site if you don't already own a pair. It's a small detail, but worth knowing in advance if it's your first time at any studio.
Whether the environment suits you
Comfort matters more than it gets credit for. For some people, that means a buzzy, music-led class; for others, a calmer, more focused room. KY Pilates is a women's-only studio, which for a lot of our members is exactly why they chose us – it changes how comfortable people feel trying something new in front of others.
Location and how it fits your week
Brick Lane, Shoreditch High Street and the surrounding streets are walkable from most of East London's office clusters, so realistically, the studio that fits into your actual week – before work, on a lunch break, or straight after – gets used far more than the one that's technically closest on a map but awkward to reach on your schedule.
KY Pilates in Shoreditch
We're a dedicated, women's-only Reformer studio in the heart of Shoreditch. Equipment is provided in every class, grip socks are available to purchase in studio if you don't have your own, booking is online, and classes are kept small by design. If that's what you're after near Brick Lane, take a look at our Shoreditch studio page, browse the schedule, or go ahead and book a class.
